Prom Hairstyles

Introduction to Prom Hairstyles

Prom night is certainly the best night of all the year, if not the whole high school experience for many teenagers. Besides your dress, your hairstyle will be the major component of your overall look. It is therefore important that that you have an excellent hairstyle that suits your face and your personality for this very special night. The hairstyle should complement your dress, hair type and face type. It should also be congruent with your own personal style. It is absolutely futile to put something very extravagant on when you are not feeling very comfortable in it. The lack of confidence that such a hairstyle would result in will show on your face and greatly diminish your inherent beauty. Prom hairstyles should convey your personality to the rest of the throng and help you assert yourself as the beauty queen you really are.

How to choose the right prom hairstyle?

It is not advised to select a hairstyle on the day of the event, especially on such a special event. You need time to reflect on your style and to match with your dress. Creating the perfect prom hair requires time to think through. Moreover, it is also advised to try out the hairstyle a few weeks before the event so that if you do not like it you will have time to change. If it is too near the event, you may not have the time to make changes (remove perms, correct unruly hair, grow hair back if you have cut them). In general, the following steps have to be undertaken:

1.   Research

It seems ridiculous to research hairstyle, but you are unlikely to have all the good ideas on your own. Why rack your brain when other people have already done it for you? Look at popular magazines, browse the Net, or take a look at what the superstars are doing. You are certain to find a particular hairstyle that will suit your needs.

2.   Match to your dress

The prom dress is certainly the most eye-catching thing you would ever be wearing—except perhaps for a wedding dress. Your hairstyle needs to complement it. Thus, if you have a formal dress, a formal hairstyle is suitable. If on the other hand, you have chosen to be more relaxed for this special evening, then a more casual hairstyle may do.

3.   Match to your face shape

Not all hairstyles work on everybody. Face shape is very important in the selection of a hairstyle or you might end up with a visual mess. Determine your face shape with care. You might ask friends and family to guess your face shape. Alternatively, you may stand in front of a mirror and outline the contours of your face using lipstick. The overall face shape would then become evident. There are many different face shapes, each requiring different hairstyle: oval, round, long, heart, square, or diamond. For example, for a round face, the best hairstyles would add length to the face (e.g. long straight hair).
